Honeywood Minor Hockey Announcement
Honeywood Hockey Families,
We hope everyone has been able to stay safe during these unprecedented times. Due to the abrupt ending of the 2019/2020 hockey season and the limit to the maximum numbers allowed for public gatherings we were unable to celebrate and congratulate everyone on a successful season.
At the time of cancellation, many of our teams were advancing into finals and playing really well. We hope that you have taken some time to reflect on the success your hockey player had this past season and reach out to other players on your team and celebrate their success as well. As always, we would like to thank the coaches, trainers, volunteers, players, parents, grandparents, referees and the executive, without whom we would not have such a thriving hockey community!
I know that many of you are looking forward to the 2020/2021 season and we apologize for the lack of communication regarding the upcoming season. As I hope you can all appreciate, we are trying to figure things out ourselves. The Ontario Hockey Federation has set forth a staged approach that does not have a specific time frame but it will evolve with the guidance of Public Health, the Provincial Government and our governing body, Hockey Canada.
The Honeywood Executive did hold a meeting last week to discuss at a more local level what returning to play will look like at Honeywood as many of the details of returning to play are left up to the local Centres to decide. At that meeting, it was unanimous that we want hockey to resume at our Centre and will do everything possible to make it happen.
As of September 1, OHF is in phase 2, stage 3C of their "OMHA Return To Play plan". A full list of the seasonal structure can be found on the OMHA website at omha.net.
Please take the time to read over the guidelines and the frequently asked questions.
Coaches have reached out to all of the parents from last year to gauge interest and the feedback is such that there is sufficient interest for us to move forward. If you have not been contacted by a coach or you are interested in registering your child for the first time, please reach out to a member of the executive to discuss your individual needs. With new players that are requiring help to skate and learn the game, we will be limited in what we can do with them due to the limitations on coaches to physically assist. Coaches will not be able to help kids stand up or touch them under the new guidelines.
Please watch the Honeywood Minor Hockey website and our Facebook page for the registration form and updates coming soon.

At the time of registration, we will only be collecting dues for October, November and December. We hope that we will be able to play a full season and will watch the situation carefully.
As far as the season is concerned, for the first three months of the season - October, November, December we will focus on developing players with practices and 3-3 or 4-4 scrimmage play with NO physical contact. Two ice times per week. During these initial three months, we do not anticipate we will be allowed to play other Centres but we will closely watch OMHA and OHF for guidance.
Families should be prepared to minimize the number of parents/guardians/spectators that attend in order to limit the number of people in the facility. As with any other public building in the community, masks must be worn while inside the facility. Players are not required to wear masks on the ice.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of us on the executive and we hope to see you soon!
